Barbies of the World

Barbie's "Dolls of the World":
The Princess Collection
Festivals of the World
Africa
Asia
Australia
Europe
North America
South America

All of the standard critiques of Barbie's inability to represent real people apply. Additionally, if you have the time to look these over then be sure to ask yourself who isn't represented at all. I suspect that a large number of people in the class will discover that they don't even exist in the world of Barbie.

I personally think that no one group of persons is represented what so ever with barbie. It's pretty much take the "perfect" image of a female, dress her up in every type of cultural clothing and have that be the representation of individuals. The funny thing is if you look at every picture in that barbie gallery you'll notice that her face is always the same, just plasticized a different colour to represent a specific race; other than that there is no differentiation of facial features between the different races. Point is barbie is a representative of herself and only herself no matter how much she tries and will never realistically be able to represent individuals and that specific individuality that a culture may bring to a group of people. Feel free to disagree :).
